Granular B or Granular B type 1 is a well graded 2” minus gravel sourced material, meaning it contains stone ranging from 2” down to sand. Generally Granular B is a cost effective screened base material, used in heavy traffic areas where compaction is necessary. With excellent compaction this material makes for a great driveway base, road base, or parking lot base material. To cap the Granular B and allow for a smooth finish, a 3/4” sized material such as Granular A is placed and compacted on top before potentially laying asphalt.
