Particularly when preparing a pad for a concrete slab, proper drainage is essential to ensure the full lifespan of your concrete. A pad can be built with many layers or a single layer, depending on the specifics of your project. When searching for a well draining pad, consider a top coat with a material containing less fines that may hold on to moisture such as a ¾” Clear Stone. Building pads for weight bearing structures should use highly compactible materials to create optimal strength and bearing capacity for your pad; look for materials containing fines such as a Granular A & B, as well as crusher runs.
